4/1 Top 9 – iTunes Week?

It’s not iTunes week, it’s pick any song downloadable from iTunes aka Pick Your Own Old Song week. Disappointing, disappointing, disappointing. You’ll see my point from the grades I’m giving these people. Anoop Desai – Caught Up by Usher Atrocious! What the f*** is this? He just murdered a great song. The appeal of the song is to be a dance song and not a singing song. Making it such, aka a singing song, just removes its value and ruins it. He sucked. Anoop should NEVER do any up-tempo songs because he has ALWAYS destroyed it. And what was with all the angas moves, it doesn’t fit him. Also, his voice was just plain. He should have kept the tempo, played with his voice and had fun. Not the garbage he did. Cowell is right, it was wannabe and it was a complete and utter mess. Like Cowell, I also got a headache. GRADE: 5.0 — Just a total FAIL. Garbage. Trash. Dump heap. I hated it! No one must sing Usher if they can’t emanate him, or drastically change the song in a way we would like it. Megan Joy – Turn Your Lights Down Low by Bob Marley It was actually sweet but the vocals were really subpar. I think it would really be a week of trouble for Megan. She really should have chosen Chasing Pavements but oh well. Simon used harsher terms than I want to use but yeah, the song was like that. I do like her though so because of bias, I give this: GRADE: 4.0 — But Megan really might leave tomorrow. She doesn’t have much lasting power anymore. Danny Gokey – What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts Not my favorite song but he really did bring raw emotion to the song. I know his grandfather just died and this is actually a strength he played. It was truly soulful and one of the few I liked tonight. It was awe-inspiring and I think this really is his best ballad performance. I like PYT more but this is one of the best of the night. It was really good. GRADE: 1.0 — Emotionally, it moved me. One of the only good performances. Allison Iraheta – Don’t Speak by No Doubt Decent performance. There were iffy parts especially in the chorus. Not really the best song for her and she doesn’t have the Gwen Stefani edge although her voice is better than Gwen. I think it was still lacking. It was a bit like Megan’s but better. It’s just sad because I love the song. GRADE: 3.0 — Lacked the edge, despite the outfit and the stance. She would have faired more with something more upbeat. Scott Macintyre – Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel Finally, it’s not a Christian song. THANK GOD! And actually he really was good tonight. A few pitch problems and a few Scott-sounds that I don’t like. He did have artistry. You know what, he’s getting a good grade from me. The performance was actually moving and it was pretty good. One thing I don’t like though is the new look. Maybe if he had his dentures done. GRADE: 1.25 — It was pretty good. His best performance by a mile like Simon said. It really was different from what he usually does. Matt Giraud – You Found Me by The Fray A pitchy start but he really did well later on. I loved the falsetto in the near end but it wasn’t that great. The music he likes are not the songs he should sing. I know that if you have a passion to the song, you can sing it well but it should still suit your voice. And honestly, Matt doesn’t work well with rock and works better with R&B because he has soul. He can TRY to show he has more genre in him but he should not lose the soul, the riffs and the dynamics. He simply lost it this week. GRADE: 2.0 – Good but not as good as his previous performances. He should stay with what we like and not what he likes, no offense. Lil Rounds – I Surrender by Celine Dion You know what, she has the potential, but she really needs voice lessons. Her voice gymnastics is lacking and what I didn’t like is that she wasn’t at par with Celine. But she could really just sing really well. She also still lacks the soul of a R&B artist. And yes, it was a safe wedding song. You know what Lil needs? A power song. I Surrender may be a Celine Dion song but not a power song. All by Myself would have been a better option if she really wanted Dion. Or she could really have went with Mariah or Blige. GRADE: 2.0 — I have to give her credit but I nearly failed her. She really has the chops but needs to learn how to use them well. Adam Lambert – Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry Started really rough for me because he really changed the tempo and pulled me off but after that, it was smooth sailing. This person is a genius because he did good dynamics that caught me off-guard. And yes, he’s showing his Steven Tyler again. He really blew the house and showed who he is without looking so f***ing gay. He really has that big star above him. Nice props to Ricky Minor. Good job! This performance made me forget Danny’s performance. I want to rethink his grade but I’m kind like that in not changing it. GRADE: 1.0 — He did justice to the song. I wish he just didn’t throw me off at the beginning. He tempted me in giving him just a 1.25. Kris Allen – Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers It was so smart for Kris to pick a song that has been covered by so many artists because simply comparing him to the original makes Kris really better than Bill Withers and you just can’t compare him to the others. Well, it really is good because so many versions and this one becomes original as well, while keeping it unoriginal…confusing. His rendition reminded me of Justin Timberlake when he remade the song. But the thing is, THIS SONG WAS HOT! The song was just amazing. And Kara learned to count…hahaha. I was wrong, Kris is not consistent, he is improving. I love his new instrument. I love the background violins. It was just WOW! He never ceases to amaze me. BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT! GRADE: 1.0 — He is really building up a good fan base. He can skyrocket to the top in a while. What Kris has to watch out for is the pimp curse. When you’re put in the pimp spot (singing last), the week after, you’ll be in the bottom three. It happened to Alexis who actually left. It happened to Matt. It might happen to Allison this time. We’ll just see. Anyway, my bottom three are Allison, Megan and Anoop. Disappointing show but really brought some good ones based on performance plus voice. Kris has made himself a frontrunner in this competition as well and Matt gives me a rethinking. Also, I like Adam and Danny more now again. Here’s a summary of grades again: Performer Top 13 Top 11 Top 10 Top 9 Average Kris Allen 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 Adam Lambert 1.00 2.00 1.00 1.00 1.25 Matt Giraud 1.00 1.00 1.00 2.00 1.25 Danny Gokey 1.00 2.00 1.25 1.00 1.31 Allison Iraheta 1.25 1.50 1.00 3.00 1.69 Anoop Desai 2.50 1.00 2.00 5.00 2.63 Lil Rounds 1.00 5.00 2.50 2.00 2.63 Megan Joy 2.25 1.00 5.00 4.00 3.06 Scott Macintyre 2.00 5.00 4.00 1.25 3.06 So my top 3 now are Kris, Adam and Matt, Danny in close 4th. My bottom three overall is Lil Rounds, Megan Joy and Scott Macintyre. But this week, the bottom three for me is Anoop, Megan and Allison. So what’s your say?
